After months of preperation and I’m pleased to announce the first destination for Hack Across America. Embarking from San Francisco on May 15 and taking the “scenic route” I’ll have the privilege of covering Overland Expo 2013 in Flagstaff, AZ. The event is touted as one of the world’s largest events for do-it-yourself adventure travel enthusiasts with over 5000 attendees and nearly 150 exhibitors. I’m excited to check out some overlanding tech from the likes of OCENS (sat-phone and data solution) as well as Goal Zero and PowerFilm (solar).
If you followed Hack Across America in 2010 you know I’m a fan of Bill Dwyer, aka Atlasrider. His video blogs were an inspiration in the preparation of that trip. It was a great pleasure to stay with him in Arizona as I crossed the country then and he prepared for his big trip – Anxiety Across the Americas – One man’s 20,000 mile Motorcycle Journey (check out the book). I’m equally excited about rendezvousing with Serafina and Aren of Hungry Riders. They’re currently en route back to San Francisco after a year long trip down central and South America. Seriously fantastic video series!
While I had intended to kick off the trip in the Bay Area at Maker Faire (which I will sadly miss), I have a good feeling Overland Expo will provide the perfect atmosphere to get outfitted, trained and inspired. Stay tuned!
