The HakShop won’t be making its debut today :(
After a frustrating day fighting with e-commerce code I must forfeit. I really wanted to have this online today but it doesn’t look like it’ll happen. If you’re reading this post after watching episode 512, I’m sorry. Check back in a day or two. Maybe then this code and mysql will start to behave.

Noooooo!!1!eleven!!! I really wanted a couple of those shot glasses, and since I’m going away for a few days you’re gonna run out of them… typical… well there’s not much to do about it, I just hope i can get hold of one (or two)
http://hak5.org/store for dumb nubs.
oh no i’m gutted been looking forward to it up till now oh well i’l have to wait another day or two, i can’t wait
Dude can’t wait for store want shot glass and pine apple any eta
Can’t wait to purchase some Hak5 schwag once the store is live.
Hopefully they’ll be some shot glasses left..
Darren’s the ultimate fail for announcing the store before it was ready. Could it be that he’s coding the store? Me think it’s a high possibility.
Darren,
What are you using for the shopping cart?
I use ZenCart for my wife’s website. http://wemakemorescents.com/ It’s OpenSource and awesome! If you use GoDaddy for hosting, they even have a 1 click install option to have ZenCart auto setup on your site. You just have to customize it and so on.
I installed my ZenCart on a OpenSuse server back in the day when I was hosting it myself, but since moved it to GoDaddy. Gotta love GoDaddy.

I feel bad about failing to have the store up by the air date. When we filmed I really thought it would be online but I ended up having a hell of a time with three different platforms.
In a nutshell the eCommerce wordpress plugins need to come a long way before they’ll be a viable option. See http://forums.shopplugin.net/topic/sql-errors-query-failed
Furthermore, while Magento is open source and full featured it comes with a learning curve that makes piloting a 747 look like a cakewalk.

@Marc, Thanks for the recommendation — I’ll give ZenCart a shot.
Darren,
ZenCart also has a great FAQ, very helpful forum, and lots of free add-ins. I’ve always found the answers to all my questions during setup on the FAQ or forum. Hope it fits your needs!
PS. I’ve been watching the show since the beginning. You guys do good work for a quality show. Thanks!
Take care,
Marc
Darren,
I’m sure you have it all under control, but don’t forget about all the PCI-DSS requirements that go along with ecommerce.
As an Info.Sec / Audit guy, you give me fits…but you are always right on target. You’ve helped me impress some tech guys more than once!
Regards,
DJ
might just have to come back when the store opens… i sooo cant wait!
I’ve also setup zencart a few timesand think its great.
I have been checking daily, will this ever work (gasp’s and holds breath)
It should be online tonight/tomorrow.
For a quick and dirty solution, try osCommerce. I’ve developed all my ecommerce systems from scratch so I’ve never used it but I know it’s relatively easy to setup and free since it’s open source.
Good luck

So… where’s that store, EH!? If you need help — let me know. Love the latest episode, btw — great stuff man. Wish I would have taken part in that rtt hunt!! Next time, stop using so much rot13 — mix it up a bit w/ uuencode, base64, hex or some other kind ENCODING in plain text (something we can chomp on). Something more web-based, http, php, html, ftp, telnet, html, javascript, whatever, would be cool.
