Hak5.org gets a facelift

May 15, 2006

The much needed website upgrades are currently taking place. The normal drill applies, if you notice a broken link I would love to hear about it. I’m currently working on making the episodes page and sketches page much cleaner. Feedback on the new template is welcome. It’s a challenge putting this all together as there are 15 unique elements of the website that need to fit somewhere. Some have pointed out that elements such as the links or donations get lost in the mix and that’s something I’m trying to figure out how to deal with.

I hope your week is filled with technolust,
–Darren

Realy good design … maybe it’s just me and it’s just a minor detail but I think the sidebar would look better on the left side … but that said this new design is realy good just as the old design were it’s simple but appealing to vistors

I agree that the sidebar would look better on the left side. The design is nice–a little bit bloggy for my taste, but that seems to work best for IPTV websites.

The design is good, except the right bar is too wide, it should be split on the left and right, and the main part of the site made wider.

I like the bar on the right, it different than most sights and allows me to look at the actual site content first, as most of us read from left to right, at least in english speaking countries.

Also I like organization of the right column. Having sight related links be first and closest to the content with advertising to right of that.

    It’s a pleasing browser expierence.

You should probably move the sponsored links up the page to give them better visibility.

It’s looking nice so far, but it seems like the font size in the comment area is a little too small. It would look better if you increased it by one or two points.

Likewise, I like the ads and links off to the right side. Nice design, Darren.

Hey Darren, sick website design - really love it. One thing though, I think that the Hak.5 logo is a little too close to the top. I think you need just a bit more of a top margin there. Other than that, fresh CSS.

well is under rescontruction, so im hoping that the bar on the right will change, i think its ok if its on the right, but its way to big. I think they are trying to put too much stuff into the toolbar to try to give breathing room for the blog part.

Darren everything looks good but you got a flicker in the middle of ur sketches page covering up some of the preview pictures

Seems a little… wide. What does it look like at 800×600? And I prefer the sidebar on the left, personally.

Is it just me, or are there some *really* faint lines on this page?

For example, I can hardly see the lines around the box in which I am typing this. Also, the comments are numbered, very lightly, and I think there are boxes around them, and they are shaded differently than the background of the page….but if my move my head to the side just a little, it’s hard to tell.

Could we get a little more color contrast please?
